The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the framework
of the project Green Agenda: Climate Change Adaptation in the Western
Balkans – WB Adapt, plans to implement a procedure for the
selection of the most favorable bidder for the procurement of paving slabs intended for use in permeable
(water-infiltrating) pavement systems for for “green” sidewalks in Zavidovići, aimed at supporting the development of the
city’s climate-resilient urban core.
The project’s intention is to support the City of
Zavidovići with the procurement of blocks/slabs, while the construction works
and surface preparation with water infiltration will be implemented by the City
of Zavidovići. The procurement and installation of permeable blocks for green
sidewalks represent an important climate change adaptation measure and
contribute to strengthening the climate resilience of the City of Zavidovići.
This activity enables better infiltration of stormwater into the soil, reduces
surface runoff and the risk of urban flooding. At the same time, permeable
materials contribute to the preservation of the natural water cycle and the
improvement of the microclimate in central urban areas.
The installation of blocks/slabs is part of a
broader project implemented by the City of Zavidovići, which aims to
reconstruct the urban core and improve sustainable urban mobility. The project
plans to convert an existing two-way street into a one-way street, build a
two-way bicycle lane, install urban furniture, and green public areas to help
reduce the urban heat island effect. Together, these measures contribute to
creating a safer, more functional, and climate-resilient urban space, in line
with the principles of sustainable urban development and climate change
adaptation.
